St. Ansgar, Iowa – Mary Ann Halverson, 87, of St. Ansgar died Sunday, September 2, 2018. Funeral services will be Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar with Rev. Christopher Staley officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4 – 6:00 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar. Burial will be at St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Mary Ann Halverson was born July 17, 1931 in Worth County, Iowa, to Arthur and Ethel Lee (Nagle) Tribbensee. She was baptized into the Christian faith on October 4, 1931 with Emil and Alma Weber as baptismal sponsors. Mary Ann was confirmed on March 25, 1945 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, Iowa. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1949.

She was united in marriage with Gerald E. Halverson of St. Ansgar on December 8, 1951 at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, IA. Jerry and Mary Ann were blessed with 67 years of marriage. They made their home in the St. Ansgar. Mary Ann began her career at the Osage Lumber Yard and for the next 39 years worked at the Rural Electric Cooperative in St. Ansgar.

She taught Sunday School and served on church council at First Lutheran Church. She also served as treasurer of St. Ansgar Heritage and the St. Ansgar Legion Auxiliary. She dearly loved her family, friends, spending time at Clear Lake, morning coffee and her card games.

She lived a long happy and healthy life. She died at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa shortly after being diagnosed with a severe form of Leukemia. She knew Christ and that she was saved, giving comfort to her family that surrounded her at her death.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband; two sons, Jeff (Mary Margaret) and Bryan (Angie); six grandchildren: Blair (Kelly), Adam (Andrea), Jenna Scheider (John), Austin, Andrew and Hanna; four great-grandchildren: Nora, Hayden, Clara, and Casey.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Bonnie.
