NORTHWOOD, Iowa -- Lynn D. Chapin, 75, of Northwood passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at his home in Northwood, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service in honor of Lynn will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the United Methodist Church, 1000 1st Ave. North, Northwood, with Reverend Rob Lanphere officiating. A graveside service for Lynn will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Manly Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Manly American Legion Post 110.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Wesley Hall.

Memorials may be directed in care of Lynn’s family to be donated in his honor.

Lynn Dean Chapin was born on June 23, 1942 in Plymouth, IA to Kenneth E. and Pauline W. (Scarrow) Chapin. One of 17 children, Lynn grew up in Plymouth attending Plymouth Schools and North Central High School. Following high school, Lynn honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966.

Following his honorable discharge, Lynn married the love of his life, Betty Jean Hoyt on July 2, 1966 in Manly, IA. The couple moved to Northwood in 1966 and to this union, two children were born, Steven and Wendy. Lynn worked as a mechanic at the Chevy Garage in Northwood. Later he began working for Worth County Road Maintenance Dept. until his retirement. During retirement he worked as an electrician’s assistant for Northwood Electric and as a truck driver for Northwood Ag through 2017.

Lynn found enjoyment in fishing and camping. He was always working on a project, whether it was restoring old cars, fixing up old tractors, or updating the acreage. He and Betty spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. Most of all, Lynn loved time with his family.

Lynn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Northwood since 1968, River City Barbershop Chorus for 28 years, and the Manly American Legion Post 110 since 2009.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Betty; his children, Steven L. (Mary) Chapin of Mesa, AZ and Wendy J. (Ernest) Fields of Raymore, MO; grandchildren Michael and Sarah Chapin, and Derek, Darren, and Shelyse Fields; his siblings, his twin sister Charlotte (Jim) O’Donnell, Iola (Daryl) Tesch, Dixie Lane, James Chapin, Sandra (Dale) Madison, Connie (Vern) Lamfers, Nancy (Dan) Cutler, Debra (LeRoy) Kleveland, Julie (Jay) Austin, Penney (Duane) Lappe, David (Lori) Chapin, and Daryl (Jeannette) Chapin; brother-in-law, Byron (Carol) Hoyt; and was loved by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and extended family members.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Kenneth and Pauline, brothers Glen, Kermit and Gary Chapin, and his sister Betty Monroe.
