LaVonne A. Flatness, 90, of Northwood passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

A funeral service to celebrate LaVonne's life will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave South, Northwood, IA with Reverend Judy Converse officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, IA.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel.

LaVonne Ann Flatness was born on January 10, 1928 in Northwood, IA to Walter C. and Hazel “Rebecca” (Jackson) Ellingson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. LaVonne was a lifelong member of the Northwood community, attending and graduating from Northwood High School in 1946.

She married her high school sweetheart, Alton H. Flatness on June 19, 1948 in Northwood. The two were inseparable through their lives. Together they farmed the land, Alton doing the physical tasks and LaVonne the bookkeeping. They partnered in the business and made a perfect team. LaVonne worked for a short time at the Northwood Library and worked for the ASCS office, retiring after 30 years.

In retirement Alton and LaVonne could be found traveling the roads of Northwood, having coffee with friends, and having lunch at the Corner Post. Even in their later years, they seemed to complete each other. Alton and LaVonne enjoyed 67 years in Northwood together until his passing in 2015.
