Elaine Ann (Roppe) Olson, 90, of Northwood, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Northwood United Methodist Church, 1000 1st Ave. N., Northwood, with Pastors Don Preston and Dennis Hudson officiating. Burial will be at South Shell Rock Cemetery in Northwood.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave. S., Northwood.
Elaine was born to Elmer and Anna (Butler) Roppe on December 4, 1927, in Northwood. She attended a country school in the area and graduated from Northwood High School in 1945.
She married Ivan Olson at First Lutheran Church in Northwood on June 27, 1948, and they were blessed with two daughters, Nancy and Vickie. They later became members of the Northwood United Methodist Church.
Elaine worked as a model at Lumberg’s in her twenties, and she enjoyed her job as a teller at Northwood State Bank for 29 years. She and Ivan delivered motor homes for Winnebago for 35 years, and she also worked more than 30 years for Low’s Auction. Ivan and Elaine lived in many country homes around Northwood, Lake Mills and in a self-built lake house on Rice Lake, where they developed the property around the lake. They were also snowbirds and developed property at a winter home in the Rio Grande, Texas, area.
Elaine enjoyed many pastimes throughout her life. At times, she was a member of the Joice Snowmobile Club, Red Hat Society and Rice Lake Golf Course. She spent her time water skiing and fishing in northern Minnesota as well as at Rice Lake. She and Ivan attended most dances at the Surf Ballroom in their active years. They were widely known for their hog roasts held at their lake house, and she also hosted RAGBRAI cyclists at their farm as they passed through town.
Elaine spent many hours playing cards with friends, crocheting afghans for loved ones, and spending time with her grandchildren. One of her most memorable moments was when she was a contestant on the Price Is Right.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Ivan of Northwood, IA; a daughter, Vickie (Dennis) Hudson of Clear Lake, IA; a son-in-law, Mark Furness of Owatonna, MN; seven grandchildren, Ian (Kari) Furness of Fargo, ND, Tricia Furness of Owatonna, MN, Angela (Jason) Klecker of Owatonna, MN, Mindy (Dave) Carano of Massillon, OH, JoAnna (Robert) Kennedy of Owatonna, MN, Amanda Manning of Northwood, IA and Alex Hackbart of Grafton, IA; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth Roppe; a daughter, Nancy Furness; a granddaughter, Jennifer Furness; and many other relatives and friends.
