Lorayne Julie Kulik, 78, of Grafton, died Sunday, June 14, 1992, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A Mass of the Resurrection was held on Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Plymouth with the Rev. William Arquitt officiating. Burial was in the Bohemian Cemetery in Plymouth.

Lorayne Julie Kulik was born on May 20, 1914, in Parkston, SD, a daughter of Joseph John and Marie (Behrend) Fergen. She was a 1932 graduate of Parkston High School and a 1934 graduate of Dakota State College in Madison, SD, where she earned an Associate of Arts degree. She then taught in rural schools in South Dakota and in the Orient and Lesterville, SD schools.

She was united in marriage to George Kulik on August 20, 1940, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston, SD. George Kulik preceded her in death on March 9, 1986.

After their marriage, they lived in Raymond, SD, until George entered the Navy during World War II and was stationed at the Naval Air Base in Miami, FL. In 1948, they moved to Grafton where Mrs. Kulik taught school for 28 years until her retirement in 1978. While living in the Grafton area she also took classes at Drake University, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her interests were antiques, flowers, family and children.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the church guild in Plymouth and was also the church organist for a number of years.

Surviving are her children, Barbara Jeanne (John) Lawrence of Northridge, CA, Georgianne Paula (Gary) McDonald of Santa Ana, CA, and Michael George (Pamela) of Des Moines; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Anthony and Benjamin Kulik, and Samuel McDonald.

She is also survived by five sisters and four brothers, Betty (Joe) Eichinger, Aberdeen SD, Jacqueline Waldo, Omaha, NE, Sister Paula (Colette) Fergen, OSF, Dixon, IL, Rachel (Ronald) Locken, Enumclaw, WA, Mary Jo Scholer, San Bernardino, CA, Thomas Fergen, San Bernardino, CA, Victor Fergen, Moorhead, MN, Daniel Fergen, Naranja, FL, and Gerry Fergen, Santa Maria, CA; as well as other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James and Paul Fergen.
