COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA - Dora E. Runyon, 92, of Council Bluffs, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015.
Dora was born, Sept. 20, 1922 in Grafton, Iowa, to Alvin G. and Esther C. (Walk) Kruger and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1940.
Dora attended Buena Vista, UNI and Wartburg College and was an elementary school teacher for over 31 years.
Dora taught school in Fayette, Iowa; Mattoon Wisconsin; and then Grafton, Iowa. She finished her last 17 years of teaching at Roosevelt School in Council Bluffs.
Dora was united in marriage to J. David Runyon on August 21, 1949, in Manly, Iowa, and together were active members at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Dora taught Sunday School there and served on the funeral lunch preparation committee.
She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority.
She is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, two sisters and granddaughter Michon R. Runyon in 2014.
Dora is survived by husband J. David, son Devon and wife Margaret, all Council Bluffs; daughters Debra A. Mielnik and husband Tom, Bettendorf, Iowa; Doreen F. Foge and husband Frank, Gaithersburg, Maryland; grandchildren: Lisa Miyares (Daniel), Shaina Lynch (John), Megan Mielnik Mulvenon (Ryan), Cristin Kohlsheen (Shawn), and Melissa Foge; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth Erdmann and husband Phil, Clarice Wilde and husband Robert all Osage, Iowa; Deanna Sande and husband Gary, St. Paul, Minnesota; Allen Kruger, Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Maxine Kruger, Grafton, Iowa; Juanita Kruger, Northwood, Iowa; Jacqueline Kruger, Genesco, New York; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel, Council Bluffs.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Council Bluffs. Interment Garner Township Cemetery, Council Bluffs, followed by a luncheon back at Our Savior’s Church.
Memorials are suggested to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Project Periwinkle, or to Council Bluffs Community Schools.
