Rueben Wayne Walk

GRAFTON, IOWA - Rueben Wayne Walk, 87, of Grafton died Saturday, August 30th, 2014.

A funeral service for Rueben will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 5th, 2014, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 308 4th Ave., Grafton, with the Reverend Solveig A. H. Zamzow officiating. Burial will follow in the Grafton Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion in Grafton.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4th, 2014, at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring Street, Manly, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.

Rueben Wayne Walk, son of Alfred and Katie Walk, was born in Grafton on November 29th, 1926. He attended Grafton Elementary and graduated from Grafton High School. After graduation, Rueben enlisted in the United States Navy where he was stationed in Memphis, TN, Norman, OK, Pensacola, FL, and Groton, CT. He was discharged from the Navy after the war ended. He worked locally on the railroad until he started farming and raising turkeys in 1951. He continued raising turkeys for over 50 years.

On June 5th, 1949, Rueben married Maxine Schultz. They lived in Grafton where they raised their three children, Cathy, Curt, and Craig.

Rueben enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and cooking for others. He loved to be surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.

He was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was also an active member of the Grafton American Legion.

He will be missed by his three children, Cathy (Denny) Severson of Eagan, MN, Curt Walk (Leanne Christeson) of Clear Lake, and Craig (Joanne) Walk of St. Ansgar; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Sheahan of Sheffield, Bonnie (Wally) Brunsvold of Chatfield, MN, and Thelma Walk of Eagan, MN; and many other family members and friends.

Rueben was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; parents, Alfred and Katie Walk; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Rosie Schultz; one sister, Irene Homes; four brothers, Ray, Orlie, LaVern, and Ernie Walk; three brothers-in-law, Clyde Schultz, Sidney Homes and Jack Sheahan; and three sisters-in-law, Marcella, Helen, and Phyllis Walk.
