Suzanne ‘Sue’ Emmons

Northwood, Iowa — Suzanne “Sue” Emmons, 92, Northwood, died Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

A memorial service for Sue will be held in the spring at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St., Northwood, with Pastor Judy Converse officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

The family of Sue Emmons has requested that those wishing to give a memorial in her memory may wish to consider memorials to First Lutheran Church and may be sent to Henry and Jane Emmons, 2125 Taylor Court, Northfield, MN. 55057.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded. Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.

Suzanne Emmons was born on December 12, 1920, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, the daughter of John and Anna (Durovchin) Durovcik. Sue graduated from Bonne Terre High School, and St. Luke’s School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to Glenn O. Emmons on Jan. 26, 1946, in Bonne Terre, Mo. He preceded her in death.

Sue worked in various areas of nursing, was a private duty nurse, and taught nursing skills during World War II. She was especially proud of working at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

She enjoyed reading, golfing, walking and gardening, but her greatest love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood, First Lutheran Church Women’s group, Anna Circle and the Northwood Country Club.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Henry (Jane) Emmons of Northfield, Minn.; son-in-law, Tom Strieter of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren, Matthew, Angela and Laura Strieter of Minneapolis, Minn., and Eric and Mark Emmons of Northfield, Minn.; her sister, Jane (Bill) Grundman of Bonne Terre, Mo.; as well as other extended family members and friends.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn O. Emmons, who died on April 14, 2001; her daughter, Glenda Strieter; and two sisters: Elizabeth Christopher and Ann Bulno.
