Manly, Iowa - Lois Ann Wenger, 81, of Manly, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Per Lois's wishes, her body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 428 W. Walnut Street, Manly, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating.
Should friends desire, memorials may be left to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018, to find a cure.
Lois Ann Wenger, daughter of Claude and Opal (Pewsey) Rockwell was born December 9, 1931, in Buena Vista County, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Storm Lake High School and began her higher education at AIB School of Business in Des Moines. When Lois was younger, she first began her working career as a secretary in Storm Lake for Chas G. Walters Manufacturing Company. This is where Lois met the love of her life, Richard, and they were united in marriage on October 5, 1952, in Albert City, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Tim, Rhonda, and Terry.
The family moved to Manly in 1955 where Lois was a homemaker for ten years, raising her children while Richard taught school there. Lois was inspired to go back to college and graduated with a teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. The family moved to Plymouth, then back to Manly, where she taught sixth grade in Osage for ten years. She then furthered her education at Mankato State with her son, Terry, receiving a degree in computer programming. Shortly after, Lois retired in the early 1980s.
Lois was an energetic well-being who loved to read books and traveled to see her family in Colorado and Missouri. She enjoyed watching and taping movies, her favorite being "The Sound of Music."
She was an active member at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, being involved in the Lydia Circle.Lois will be missed by her husband of 60 years, Richard "PeeWee" Wenger, Manly; children, Tim Wenger, Pueblo, Colorado, Rhonda Hermsen, Boulder, Colo., and Terry Wenger, St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Austin Hermsen, Denver, Colo., Ben Hermsen, Boulder, Colo., Dane Hermsen, Longmont, Colo., and Adam Hermsen, Boulder, Colo.; sister, Donna (Dick) Bandy, Visalia, Calif., and brother-in-law, Russ Stille, Shellman, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patty Stille.
