Funeral services for Lydia Kruger, 87, were held on Tuesday, August 7, 1984 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton, Iowa. Rev. G. Panko officiated, with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She died at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Lydia Ann Kirchgatter was born on July 17, 1897 in Hancock county, Iowa. She was the daughter of Gustav and Emma Walk Kirchgatter. Around the age of two, Lydia moved with her family to a farm north and west of Grafton. She attended rural schools in Worth County, Iowa and Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

On April 3, 1918 she married Alfred Kruger and Lydia lived on a farm northeast of Grafton. After her husband's death in 1958, Lydia moved to a house in Grafton. On June 25, 1984, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, following a stroke.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Evelyn Steinberg, one granddaughter, Shirley Fossey; two brothers, Earl Kirchgatter and Ben Kirchgatter and one sister, Esther Krieger.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harley (Alphia) Walk of Grafton; two sons, Wilfred and Elery, both of Grafton; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one brother, George Kirchgatter of Riceville; three sisters: Gusta Larson of Minneapolis, Iva Lang of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Vera Bublitz of Mason City; two sisters-in-law, Lilly Kirchgatter of Riceville; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Lang of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
