Clara Anna Margaret Macken, 84, of Grafton, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services were held Monday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gregory Bjornstad officiating. Burial was in the Grafton Cemetery.
Clara Anna Margaret Macken was born on May 30, 1912, in Humboldt, SD, the daughter of August and Emma (Pahl) Bork.
She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Humboldt, SD.
When she was 6 years old, her family moved from Humboldt, SD, to Worth County, Iowa, where she attended rural school near Grafton.
After completing her schooling, she worked for her mother-in-law and father-in-law on their farm in Worth County, near Grafton.
She was united in marriage to Clarence Macken on June 8, 1942, in Albert Lea, MN. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1950.
After her marriage, Clara began working as a cleaning lady for the Farmers State Bank in Grafton and was also a cook for the Grafton Public School system from 1953 until her retirement in 1977.
She enjoyed gardening, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and cooking, not only for her family but for others, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
Clara was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton and the church circle, and the Ladies Legion Auxilliary in Grafton.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Macken, Mason City, and Sharon Ebaugh, St. Cloud, MN; two grandchildren, David Ebaugh of St. Louis Park, MN and Jason Ebaugh, St. Cloud, MN; one sister, Augusta Saathoff, Manly Care Center; and several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lloyd Bork; and five sisters, Emma Dewhirst, Bertha Jordan, Esther Polzin, Ruth Olson and Myrtle Martinie.
