High School Junior Dies of Auto Injuries

The Northwood Methodist church - main auditorium, balcony and basement - were filled to capacity for the funeral of Norman Godfrey Tuesday afternoon.

The high school wrestling squad, of which Norman was a member, served as an honor guard. Classmates were pall bearers. A large part of the student body of Northwood high school attended.

The Rev. R. Roland Ritter officiated at the rites, which were followed by burial in Sunset Rest Cemetery. Conner funeral home was in charge. Pall bearers were Mike McQuatters, James Allison, Duane Hanson, Philip Allison, Duane Hanson, Philip Fistler, Herbert cross and Gordon Anderson.

In Saturday Accident

Norman died late Saturday afternoon at a Mason City hospital, where he was rushed following an auto accident at about 3 p.m. Saturday, three miles north of Northwood. A skull fracture was the cause of death.

Norman, a 16-year-old junior in Northwood high school was driving his father's car when the accident occurred. The highway patrol, which investigated, said it appeared that he had lost control after going over a hump in the road at an intersection. The car went in the ditch and rolled over several times.

The boy's body was thrown from the car, and found about 80 feet from it.

Gordon Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Anderson, Northwood, was a passenger. He was not thrown from the car and suffered minor injuries including ankle and hip bruises.

Only Son

Norman James Godfrey was the youngest child and the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Orble Godfrey, who farm three miles northwest of Northwood.

Born Aug. 25, 1941, at Northwood, he was confirmed April 11, 1954, by the Rev. Ellery J. Beal in the Northwood Methodist church. He was active in the Sunday school and an officer in the MYF.

At school he was on the football squad, was a member of the varsity wrestling team, active in Future Farmers of America. He was a member of the Boot and Spur saddle club.

Survivors, besides his parents are two sisters, Arlene, Mrs. John Salz, Tucson, Ariz., and Joyce, a student at Waldorf college, Forest City.

Also surviving are his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nielandt, Northwood; one uncle, Carl Godfrey of Plymouth, and six aunts, Mrs. Kenneth Groe, Burlington; Mrs. Chrystal White, Playa del Rey, Calif.; Mrs. Glenn Pixley and Mrs. Leslie Eilertson, Northwood; Mrs. Fred Logeman, Manly, and Mrs. Harry Godfrey, Boone.
