DARLEEN LEVITT KAASA
HANLONTOWN, IOWA — Darleen Levitt Kaasa, 78, died Friday (Oct. 3, 2003) at her home in Hanlontown.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, 302 East Fourth Street, Hanlontown, with the Rev. Kris Snyder officiating. Burial will be at Brush Point Cemetery in rural Hanlontown.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring Street, in Manly.
Darleen was born July 2, 1925, in Sheffield, to Ward and Elma (Horstman) Levitt. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Sheffield.
She received her education from the Sheffield Public Schools, graduating in 1942. After high school she attended the University of Iowa and Hamilton Business College.
Darleen was united in marriage to LaVerne Kaasa on August 5, 1945, in Sheffield.
She was confirmed and joined the Grace Lutheran Church in 1954. She served her church in many capacities including the original Altar Guild and as a statistician for twenty-five years for the Iowa District of the American Lutheran Church.
She was a 4-H and scout leader. She was an original member of the Kinney Library Board and played an instrumental role in establishing the Hanlontown Library.
For over five decades Darleen was an avid golfer. She enjoyed reading, knitting, rosemaling, traveling, playing cards, and fishing trips to Minnesota. She enjoyed wintering in the southwest since 1982.
Surviving Darleen is her husband, LaVerne, of Hanlontown; one son and his wife, Stephen and Annette, of Albert Lea, Minn.; two daughters and their husbands, Rebecca and James Langan, of Afton, Minn., and Annette and Kirk Flores, of Wheaton, Ill. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Levitt, of Sheffield.
Darleen was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Rex.
