Alfred Schmidt, 73, of Grafton is Dead

Lifelong Resident of Community Fails to Recover From Cerebral Hemorrhage

Alfred Schmidt, 73, a resident of the Grafton-Plymouth vicinity since childhood, died Monday evening, February 18, 1946, at the Mercy hospital in Mason City of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Immanuel Lutheran church, Grafton, with the pastor, the Rev. S. M. Becker, in charge. Burial will be in the cemetery at Grafton.

Mr. Schmidt was a native of Wisconsin and when a boy came with his parents to Iowa where they settled on a farm north of Plymouth.

On reaching adult years he acquired a farm four miles south of Grafton where he and his family resided until about 18 years ago when they moved to Graf ton.

He was prominent in his home community, serving for several years as assessor and also as a member of the school board and of the Lutheran church board of which he was secretary for a time.

He is survived by his wife and by nine children, five daughters and four sons: Mrs. Albert Tabbert and Mrs. Harvey Felton, Osage; Mrs. Lloyd Borchardt, Plymouth; Mrs. Alvin Borchardt and Mrs. .Herman Rekow. Mason City; Herman Schmidt, Grafton; Arthur Schmidt, St. Ansgar; Alfred Schmidt, Jr., Clear Lake, and Emil Schmidt, Plymouth.

One daughter preceded him in death four years ago in adult years. There are 30 grandchildren and 3 great grand-children.

He is also survived by one sister,Mrs. Minnie Gordon of Austin, Minn.,and two brothers, the Rev. Carl F. Schmidt of Stanhope, Iowa, formerly pastor of the Christian church at Fertile, and Edmund Schmidt of the town of Grafton.
