Maria Andersen was born January 29, 1889 near Meltonville, Newburg, Mitchell, IA to Hans Andersen and Gena Petersdatter. She can be found living with her parents and siblings in the 1895 census at Newburg, Mitchell, IA. She had 9 brothers and sisters: Inga Caroline, Anna Susan, Peder, Clara, Helena, George, Adolph, Nina and Selma Nora.

She moved to near Stanley, Ward, North Dakota with her parents in 1898 where they homesteaded farmland. Her father worked as a farmer and in the coal mines in the area.

She married Ole W Johnson on April 1, 1906 at probably Ward, North Dakota. They had 10 children: Helmer Jester, Hazel Cora, Walter Clarence, Earl Warner, Adolph Bjorn, Florence Mary, Olga Marie Earlina, Nora Thelma, Evelyn Irene and Elvira Doris.

Family can be found in the 1900 census at Township # 159, Ward, N.D. and in the 1910 through 1930 censuses at Township # 158, Sidonia, Mountrail, N.D.

Ole and Mary moved east to live at Kensett, Worth, Iowa. She died July 14, 1960 at Kensett, Worth, IA at the age of 71 years. Her funeral was conducted by the Rev. E.R. Haspany on July 18, 1960 at Northwood, IA and she was buried at Grant Cemetery, Fertile, Worth, Iowa. Pall bearers were Doyle Weieneth, Charles Colby, Merle Myers, Glen Olsen, Garmen Olsen and Dean Ketelsen.
