ROBERT L. 'BOB' BLATTSPIELER

MANLY - Robert L. "Bob" Blattspieler, 78, of 502 N. Linden St., Manly, died Monday (Dec. 16, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 428 W. Walnut in Manly with the Rev. Randy Nielsen officiating. Burial will be at the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials can be given to the Robert L. Blattspieler Memorial Fund.

Robert Lewis Blattspieler was born Oct. 15, 1924, in Mason City to Lewis and Amelia (Holstead) Blattspieler. He attended school in Manly and graduated from Manly High School.

He then went to the Iowa Barber College in Des Moines and after graduating he had his own barbershop in Manly for 25 years. Bob then went to work for the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance for 12 years.

Bob was married to Sophia Collis on July 26, 1943, in Los Angeles, Calif.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Manly Town and Country Club. He enjoyed watching sports and playing golf.

Bob is survived by three daughters, Sharon Anderson, of Woodbury, Minn., Joan Hargis and her husband, Bill, of Woodbury, Minn., and Carol Blattspieler-Jackson and her husband, Jeff, of Shelburne, Vt.; six grandchildren, Christy Tolkinen and her husband, Todd, of Woodbury, Minn., Rob Anderson and his wife, Amy, of Hastings, Minn., Peter Hargis of St. Paul Park, Minn., Mark Hargis of Valparaiso, Ind., Alexis and Eliza Jackson of Shelburne, Vt.; five great-grandchildren, Cole Tolkinen, Autumn Anderson, Crimzon Anderson, Olivia Tolkinen, and Cora Anderson; two sisters, Lois Graber of Wayland, and Virginia Bublitz of Pharr, Texas; and his special friend, Nova Kobernusz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sophia; and a son-in-law, Kent Anderson.
