MARCELLA MAE ROSSITER

MANLY - Marcella Mae Rossiter, 91, of Manly, died Wednesday (Dec. 4, 2002) at the Manly Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Manly.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St. in Manly, with the Rev. Thomas Healey, Hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today and one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the chapel.

Marcella Mae Rossiter was born on May 3, 1911, in Manly, the daughter of Harry G. and Anna (Bednar) Rossiter. She attended and received her education in the Manly school system, graduating from Manly High School. Marcella also attended a college in Mason City.

Marcella was a homemaker and also wrote many poetry books, some of those being "Cobweb on the Moon" and "Woven on a Spider Web's Harp," illustrated books of poetry by Marcella M. Rossiter, which were first-place winners in the National Federation of Press Women's creative writing contest. She had won over 50 poetry awards; she also served as secretary and vice president for Iowa Poetry Day Association, and first vice president for Composers, Authors, and Artists of America.

She was named "Kernel of the Tall Corn" by press columnists of Iowa, and "Iowa Woman of the Week" by the Tall Corn radio network. The author is included in "Who's Who of American Women," "Who's Who in the Midwest" and "International Who's Who in Poetry."

Besides writing poetry, Marcella also enjoyed fixing old dolls, gardening, putting together scrapbooks, writing letters, pets and taking neighbor children on train rides to go shopping.

Survivors include special friends, Sandy "Arp" Kimpling and her husband, Rod, of Fertile, Connie Nitcher and her husband, Jim, of Manly, Chad Kamish and his wife, Michelle, of Plymouth, Matt Kamish of Mason City, Lucas and Elijah Kamish, both of Manly, and Maurice and Betty Lane of Manly. She is also survived by cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
