ERNEST SCHULTZ DIES OF THRESHING INJURIES - AUGUST 13TH, 1939

Ernest Schultz, 53, of Grafton, Iowa, died at Mercy hospital in Mason City, on Sunday August 13, from blood poisoning, resulting from an injury he sustained on August 1st. His arm had been caught in the belt of a threshing machine. Although given immediate medical attention, he was taken to the hospital on August 7 and all efforts to allay the spread of the blood infection proved futile.

Ernest Louie Schultz was born August 23, 1885 on a farm one mile south of Grafton. He was baptized September 27, 1885 and was confirmed April 8, 1900 in the Grafton Lutheran church. He spent most of his boyhood days on the farm with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Schultz.

He was united in marriage to Miss Helena Braun on February 4, 1906. Five children were born to this union: Mrs. Dora Trettin, Mrs. Alphia Boeset and three died in infancy.

After a separation, the deceased was united in marriage to Miss Sopie Betow of Myrtle, Minnesota on the 12th of March, 1928. To this union two children were born: Lois Darlene and Sylvia Ann. His wife passed away on May 25, 1935.

Mr. Schultz was the janitor of the Grafton Lutheran church for the past 15 years. He was also a carpenter and in the fall he operated a threshing machine. He had attained the age of 53 years, 11 months and 21 days.

He leaves to mourn his death besides the four daughters, his aged mother, Mrs. Kate Schultz, four brothers: Arthur, Clarence, Ervin and George, all of Grafton; three sisters: Mrs. William Braun, and Mrs. Arthur Bruesewitz, both of Grafton and Mrs. Charles Young of Driscoll, North Dakota; three grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral rites were conducted by Rev. Lechner at the Grafton Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon, August 16, 1939. Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery.
