Donald Arhart

NORTHWOOD- Donald DeWaine Arhart, 64, of Northwood, died Sunday (July 28, 1991) at his home.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly, with the Rev. Marvin Cleair officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with graveside military rites given by Our Buddies VFW Memorail Post 6779, Northwood.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

The family requests memorial contributions be given to the Donald Arhart Memorial Fund.

Donald DeWaine Arhart was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Marble Rock, the son of Wayne and Estella (Allen) Arhart. He attended school in Marble Rock and was inducted into the U.S. Navy serving during World War II from 1944 to 1946. In 1950 he was inducted into the U.S. Army serving in the Korean conflict until his discharge in 1952. He also served in the National Guard.

He married Marilyn Fry on Aug. 23,1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked at Armour Food Co. in Mason City for 24 years, retiring in 1975. He and his wife later opened the Midway Cafe in Northwood which he owned and operated for 16 years. He enjoyed woodworking, flowers, cooking and visiting shutins. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly, lifetime member of Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post 6779, Northwood, member of Disabled American Veterans, Seekers Sunday School Class, Christian Home Builders Sunday School, was a former 4-H leader and former scoutmaster with McKinley School District in Mason City.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Northwood, two daughters, Mrs Michael (Stella) Odom, Manly, and Mrs Jimmy (Christine) Dobbins, Minneapolis, two sons, Dale and his wife Roxanne Arhart of Northwood, Larry and his wife Sandra Kay Arhart of Mason City; four sisters, Mrs. Claude (Elinore) Bramlette, Covina, Calif., Mrs. James (Marvel) Keough and Mrs. Charles (Nola) Seifert of Mason City, and Mrs. Jerry (Joyce) Hilton, Yakima, Wash; one brother, Charles and his wife Lorraine Arhart of Mason City; his mother-in-law, Mrs Stella Fry of Manly; nine grandchildren, Christopher and Justin Arhart, Shawn, Shamra and Kiara Dobbins, Ole, Mike and Jeremy Odom and John Rozen; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
