LaVern Arthur Walk 83, of 103 4th Ave., Grafton died Saturday March 3, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services were held 10:30 am. Wednesday, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, with Reverend Wayne and Ami Irmgard Ellingson officiating.  Interment was in the Grafton Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by members of the Grafton American Legion Post 616.

LaVern Arthur Walk was born October 25, 1923, in Grafton, the son of Alfred and Katie (Rademaker) Walk.  He graduated from Grafton High School.  LaVern enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific during WWII.  He was stationed in Columbus, Ohio, where he was a navy mechanic, later being honorably discharged.  There he met Thelma McCarley, they were united in marriage on October 6, 1946, in Galiapolis, Ohio; to this union three daughters were born.     LaVern and Thelma moved to Grafton in 1947, there he took over his Dad's machine shop; later working for Moorman's Feed Company until his retirement.  LaVern continued to work for Worth County Mutual Insurance Company until the time of his death.

LaVern loved fishing, golfing, hunting, and traveling, especially taking family trips to Minnesota; his greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.  He was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Grafton American Legion Post 616.

LaVern is survived by his wife Thelma Walk, Grafton, daughters Jackie (David) Fandel, Mason City, Jeanine Walk, Apple Valley, Mn, Connie Sue (Tony) Oliver, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, grandchildren Nicole (Eric) Umbarger, Grimes, Shae Fandel and fiancé J.J. Thompson, Johnston, Aubrey Marsh and Brian Oliver, both of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, great grandchildren Lindzie, Sydney, Jacob, and Grace Umbarger, one brother Reuben (Maxine) Walk, Grafton, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    
LaVern is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ernie, Ray, and Orland Walk and one sister Irene Homes.
