Thelma Inez Jorde, 96, of Kensett, Iowa, passed away on Saturday morning, June 28, 2008, at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Manly, Iowa.

A Celebration Service was held on Wednesday July 2, at 11:00 a.m., at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly, with Rev. Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Interment was in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett.

Thelma was born on June 25, 1912 on a farm near Kensett, the daughter of Knut and Randina (Foss) Gordon. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. She graduated from the Kensett High School in 1931, where she developed her many musical talents including singing in many operettas, playing piano, organ, violin and flute. Although she was an only child she was raised with three cousins, Elvin Orpen, Cora Orpen Dahl and Raymond Brubak.

Thelma married Owen Arnold Jorde on June 6, 1933, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, Iowa. Thelma was a member of the Worth County Women's Chorus and Church Choir. She was also active in her Church, a member of a Circle and WELCA. Thelma is also remembered for her "fancy work", crocheting being her specialty.

She was a housewife and homemaker and many of her recipes for Norwegian and American food have found their way into the hearts, memories and cupboards of her loved ones. She always had a high interest in politics.

Thelma is survived by a daughter, Arlene Jorde of Kensett; a son, Travis Jorde and his wife, Shirley of Rochester, Minnesota; two grandson, Weston Jorde of St. Paul, Minnesota and David Jorde and his wife, Holly of Duluth, Minnesota; and a special cousin, Raymond Brubak and his wife, Viola of Kiester, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; and special cousins, Elvin Orpen and Cora Orpen Dahl.
