NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Glenn O. Ferley, 88, of Northwood died Friday (Sept. 11, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will take place in the Silver Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St., Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Silver Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Bill Loberg, 549 Silver Lake Road, Northwood, IA 50459.

Glenn Orville Ferley was born on Dec. 7, 1920, in Hartland Township, Worth County, Iowa, to parents Alfred T. and Gena (Loken) Ferley. He attended country school and was baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood.

On December 19, 1943, Glenn was united in marriage with Lyla C. Jacobson at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minn., by the Rev. Knutson. The couple made their home in rural Northwood, where Glenn and Lyla farmed.

The couple enjoyed dancing and traveling together, visiting places such as Norway, Alaska, the Ozarks and Branson. Glenn was a lifelong and active member of Silver Lake Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his children, Cheryl (Larry) Schuttler of Grafton, Paul (Sharyl) Ferley of Northwood, Linda (Jerry) Holty of Hastings, Minn., Gerald (Lucretia) Ferley of Northwood, Shirley (Terry) Turvold of Cottage Grove, Minn., Duane (Solla) Ferley of Hastings, Minn., and Glenda Schiller of Hastings, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother Seymour Ferley and his wife, Darlene, of Emmons, Minn.; a sister, Ardella Hagen, of Manly; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lyla on Oct. 29, 2003; a baby brother; and a brother-in-law, Leo Hagen.

The family wishes to extend their most sincere thanks to the staff at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood and, and also to Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, for the kindness and respect shown to Glenn and to them during this transition.
