Burial at Hanlontown
FOREST CITY, IOWA - Kathryn Waldrop Oulman, 92, of Forest City, died Wednesday (Sept. 2, 2009) at "The Commons" in Owatonna, Minn.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerry Swanberg officiating. Burial will be at Brush Point Cemetery in Hanlontown, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 4, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. Forest City and an hour prior to service at the church.
Kathryn Waldrop Oulman was born on March 2, 1917, in Woodbury County, Sioux City, the daughter of John and Etta (Husiman) Osterkamp. As a young child, she moved with her family to Cerro Gordo County where she attended school in Ventura.
In 1937, she married Burley Waldrop and the couple lived in Hanlontown. Kathryn was very busy with church and community activities, her big lawn and flowers, and kept a large garden, known as the "Waldrop Garden". She worked for Friedman's Produce in Forest City for many years, then at Winnebago Industries for 10 years before retiring. Mr. Waldrop passed away in 1972.
She was united in marriage to James F. Oulman in 1974 and they made their home in Forest City. For 17 years the couple traveled all over in their motor home and enjoyed every minute of it. Mr. Oulman passed away in 1996.
Kathryn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Forest City and the Kum Along Club.
She is survived by a son, Jerald L. Waldrop (Ardythe); three grandchildren, Michelle (Ed) Tarka, Marsha (Bobby) Elliott and Shannon (Carrie) Waldrop; four great-grandchildren Leigha Tarka, Joshua Tarka, Sidney Waldrop and Keira Waldrop; a sister, Grace Morehead of Hawarden, Iowa; a brother, Edward (Joan) Osterkamp of Alcester, S.D.; and a very close nephew, Lynn Osterkamp, his wife Jill and their children of Forest City. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews and their families.
Also surviving are four stepchildren: Gary (Gay) Oulman, of Buchanan, Tenn.; James (Sandy) Oulman of Lakeland, Fla., Eugene Oulman of Waterloo; Sandy Gutasky of Grundy Center; and 15 step-grandchildren.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, three brothers, William, John Jr. and Richard, and six sisters, Lena Oulman, Elizabeth Heitzig, Minnie Pitzenberger, Frances Heck, Mary Harris and Christina Duello.
