GRAFTON, IOWA - Kenneth Arnold Borchardt, 85, of Grafton died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

He was born on October 18, 1923, in Rock Township, Mitchell County, the son of Louis and Laura (Belz) Borchardt. Kenneth was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. He served in the Army.

On September 14, 1947, he married Olga Ariel Thornton at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Rockwell. They farmed on the Borchardt family homestead, rural Plymouth. Kenneth was a farmer who loved seedtime and harvest, trees and gardening and flowers. He also loved woodworking and traveling. Kenneth was active in his church and community.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson and Irmgard Ellingson, associate in ministry, officiating. Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Grafton American Legion Post 616.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Olga Borchardt, of Grafton; one daughter, Sharon (Randy) Hulshizer of Grafton; three sons, John (Betty) Borchardt of Plymouth, Bill (Tammy) Borchardt of Plymouth, and Mark (Belinda) Borchardt of Grafton; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Foell of Plymouth; and a niece, Ruth (Richard) Neeley of Grafton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant grandson.
