Richard James Nack

Richard James Nack, age 70, of Grafton, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton with Rev. Wayne Ellingson and Irmgard Ellingson, Associate in Ministry, officiating. Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Richard was born March 15, 1939 to Wilmer and Olga (Bartz) Nack of Grafton. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. Richard graduated from Grafton High School in 1957. He lived his entire life near Grafton. On June 12, 1960, Richard married Charlotte Strong of Mason City. To this union, two daughters were born: Tamara (Tami) and Barbara (Barb). Richard farmed and ran a bin construction company, "Nack Brothers" with his brother Robert. He retired from farming in 1987 and then worked at the Grafton Co-Op Fertilizer plant until retiring in 2002. Richard enjoyed traveling, the many cats he adopted, going to Canada in his motor home and gardening. This was evident by the hundreds of tomato plants he grew each year and all of the other vegetables he loved sharing with others. Richard was always willing to help others out and his generosity will be remembered. He was very proud of his grandchildren and they all have special memories of "Grandpa Nack." Richard was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Grafton Community Action. He served on the board of directors of the Grafton Housing Committee for many years.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Tamara (Jerry) Hemann of Osage; Barbara (Leland) Meitner of St. Ansgar; his eight grandchildren: Brandon (Crystal) Meitner; Amanda (Mark) Luna; Hailey Meitner; Brittaney and Blair Wilde; Matthew, Stephanie and Ryan Hemann; great grandson, Reece Meitner-Luna and a great granddaughter on the way; three step-great grandchildren, Marcus, Jakob and Haylee Luna; sister, Ramona (Alvin) Meyer of Austin, MN; sisters-in-law, Laurie Nack Bublitz of Grafton; Darlene (Robert) Fredrickson of Mason City; Linda (Terry) Barnhart of Buffalo, WY; Denise (Bill) French of Buffalo Center; one aunt, Ione (Clarence) Kruse of Hampton; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte on October 25, 2005; his parents, step-mother, Alice Nack, and two brothers, William (Billy) and Robert.
