Arnold Leroy Garnass, 85, of Manly, Iowa, Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Arnold was born in Hartland Township, Worth County, Iowa, on May 3, 1922 to Ole I. and Josephine (Hengesteg) Garnass. He attended the Manly Public Schools, graduating in May of 1939. He received a BA degree in Commerce from the University of Iowa in 1943. He entered the United States Marine Corps in May of 1943 and served in World War II, serving in California, Hawaii, on Pelelieu Island and in Japan. He was discharged as a Corporal on January 11, 1946.

He married Zola Gae Barker on December 21, 1943, in San Diago, CA where they lived until Arnold went overseas. They returned to Manly after Arnold's discharge and lived there the rest of their married life of 64 years.

He served as the Postmaster of Manly, Iowa from 1946 to his retirement on May 4, 1977. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Manly. He was also a member of the American Legion, V.F.W, National Association of Postmasters, and BPOE #375 of Mason City.

He was an avid sports fan always following his favorite teams and also attending the sporting and musical events of their grandchildren. Zola and Arnold also made 3 trips to Norway to visit his father's families. They enjoyed spending summers at their cabin on Woman Lake in Minnesota, sharing time with family and friends.
