NORTHWOOD, IA — Evelyn T. Thompto, 95, of Northwood, died Tuesday (Dec. 25, 2007) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 28, 2007, at the First Lutheran Church Chapel, 309 N. Ninth St. in Northwood, with the Rev. Barbara Wills officiating. Burial will be in the Stateline Cemetery, rural Northwood.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time today at the church.

The family of Evelyn T. Thompto has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S. in Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn T. Thompto was born on Sept. 4, 1912, in Faribault, Minn., the daughter of Theodore and Emma (Tenold) Sage. Evelyn was confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood on May 15, 1927. She attended school in Hartland Township and graduated from Northwood High School.

Evelyn took pride in her chickens while on the farm and loved her cat later when she was alone. She took a penmanship course and also enjoyed sewing and painting. She volunteered for the Lutheran Retirement Home and also mended clothes for the residents there. She had been a resident of the Lutheran Retirement Home for seven years.

Evelyn always had a stack of books to read and usually would read all night to finish a book. She also liked Guidepost magazines, Cappers Weekly and Readers Digest.

She was married to Linn Pixley and Harry L. Thompto; both of them preceded her in death. She also had a great-grandson Eric Thompto; one sister, Irma Sage Petersen; and a brother, Alvin Sage; that preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memory is one son, Harry M. (Lois) Thompto, of Manly; three grandsons: Steven Thompto of Northwood, Russell Thompto of Northwood, and Richard (Tressa) Thompto of North Brook, Ill., two great-grandchildren: Ryan and Sara Thompto of North Brook, Ill., as well as many extended family members and friends.
