Funeral services for retired Hanlontown area farmer, Edward O. Vaage, were conducted Wednesday at Petersen Funeral home in Forest City. The Rev. Ole Winter, paster of Immanuel Lutheran church, officiated.

Recorded voice of Merrill Womach provided the music for the service. Casket bearers were Lee Elwood, Larry McCauley, Mike McCauley, Robert Norem, James Thompson and Glenn Vaage. Burial was in Brush Point cemetery near Hanlontown.

Vaage, 88, died Sunday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Edward O. Vaage, the son of Jorgen and Christina Erickson Vaage, was born Aug. 28, 1894, in Ortonville, Minn. In 1910, his mother died and in 1912, his father moved the family to a farm near Fertile.

Vaage was married to Anna Rodberg Sept. 20, 1920. He farmed in the Fertile/Hanlontown area most of his life, except for a brief employment with the railroad working out of Hanlontown.

His wife died Dec. 20, 1964, and since the death of his son, Earl on Sept. 23, 1981, he has lived with his son, Arthur, in Norwalk.

Survivors include his children, Mrs. Arthur (Esther) Nauman of Mason City, Mrs. Robert (Sylvia) Elwood of Jonesboro, Ark., Orvin Vaage of Clear Lake and Arthur Vaage of Norwalk, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also surviviing are two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Norem of Lake Mills and Mrs. Russell (Dena) Rollefson of Hanlontown, and four brothers, Engvald Vaage, Carl Vaage and John Vaage of Stanley N. Dak.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his son, his parents and three brothers, Andrew, George and Nick.
