Esther Aletta Roslien, 87, of Kensett, died Thursday (Aug. 8,1996) at the Manly Care Center.

Funeral services were held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 600 Fifth St., Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer G. Hernes officiating. Burial was in Elk Grove Cemetery, rural Kensett.

Esther Aletta Roslien was born March 2, 1909 at Roland, the daughter of Ira and Gurena (Twedt) Erickson. She was baptized at the Lutheran church at Roland. She grew up in Graettinger and attended and graduated from Kensett High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for three years, earning a teacher's certificate. She taught school in Kensett and at the public school in Fertile until her marriage.

Esther was united in marriage to Hartwick O. Roslien on Jan. 18, 1936 at Kensett. The couple moved to Mason City for a short time and then to Kensett in 1937.

Esther's faith was a large part of her life. She was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett. She taught Sunday school and was the superintendent of the Sunday school for many years at the church. She actively participated in and was president of both the Ladies Aide and the Woman's Church Circle.

Esther enjoyed fishing, gardening, creating embroidery, reading, traveling and baking Norwegian pastries.

She has resided at the Manly Care Center since 1991.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Roslien of White Bear Lake, Minn.; Craig Roslien and his wife, Pat, of Minnetonka, Minn.; two grandchildren, Sarah Roslien Zirbes and her husband, Daniel, of Lakeville, Minn., and Stephen Roslien of Minnetonka, Minn.; two sisters, Eva Bartleson of Forest City, and Naomi Ostby and her husband, Roger, of Cedar Falls; one sister-in-law, Helen Erickson of Estherville; one brother-in-law, Ernest Petersen of Foley, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hartwick; three brothers, Jordan Erickson, Earl Erickson, and Everett Erickson; two sisters, Ruth Toft and Judith Petersen; and two half-brothers, Silas Erickson and Orvie Erickson.
