Joshua Ryan Kuhlmann, 17, of Northwood, died Monday (July 3, 2006) at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a long, courageous battle with muscular dystrophy surrounded by his loving family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 10, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St. in Northwood, with the Rev. Wayne Hagen of First Lutheran Church and the Rev. Robert Luebbert of the Northwood Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church. The family of Joshua Ryan Kuhlmann has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Joshua Ryan Memorial Fund, which has been established at the Farmers State Bank, 99 N. Seventh St., Northwood, Iowa.

Joshua Ryan Kuhlmann was born on Dec. 21, 1988, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Gail Kuhlmann and Stephen Ingersoll. He attended and received his education in the Northwood-Kensett Community Schools and would have been a senior this year.

Despite the physical challenges of muscular dystrophy, Joshua was on the high school honor roll. While at school, Joshua belonged to a chess club. Joshua enjoyed immensely all the festivities at the junior-senior prom, his close friends, especially Zack Willis who he considered a brother, and giving advice to his younger brother, Cody. He enjoyed playing Nintendo video games, cards, checkers and going to the library.

Joshua was a very well liked and admired by his classmates who insisted that he attend the junior-senior prom. Joshua was a person who brought out the best in everyone and always had a smile for you.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Gail Kuhlmann of Northwood and Stephen Ingersoll of Plymouth; his brothers, Gerad Kuhlmann and his fiancee, Jessica Freerksen, of Northwood, Cody Cox of Northwood and his brother-in-soul, Zack Willis, of Northwood; his grandfathers, Gaylord LaVon Kuhlmann from Northwood, residing in Manly, and William Ingersoll of Old Town, Fla.; his aunts, Linda Carlson of Northwood, and her fiance, Bob Link, of Mason City, Kathy Rush and her husband, Kurt, of Mason City, Sandra Jacobson and her husband, David, of Dillon, Iowa, and Jody Damman and her husband, Robert, of Statler, Iowa; his uncles, Steve Carlson of Manly and William Ingersoll Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Moline, Ill., and Curtis Ingersoll and his wife, Ruth, of Hooperville, Wis.; two special nephews, Dylon Freerksen and Collin Kuhlmann; his cousins, Amber Carlson and her daughter, Trinity, Laura Carlson, Garrett Carlson and Aaron and Jordan Rush; as well as many other cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Joyce Kuhlmann and Verdean Ingersoll; and an uncle, Gary Kuhlmann.
