Gay D. Schneider, 76, of Manly passed away Sunday (April 23, 2006) at Manly Nursing and Rehab Center, Manly. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (April 27, 2006) at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, Mason City, with Rev. Jon M. Seda officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today (April 26, 2006) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, where a scriptural wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. today. There will also be visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association — Greater Iowa Chapter and Hospice of North Iowa.

Gay Dolores (Wells) Schneider was born on March 23, 1930, in Mason City, daughter of Wendell and Sidonia (Exner) Wells. Gay grew up in Mason City and graduated from Holy Family Catholic High School.

She attended Clarke College in Dubuque, where she obtained her teaching certificate. She taught in elementary schools in Parkersburg, Swaledale and Kensett, and would occasionally substitute teach at area schools. In later years, Gay worked at Amicare as a caregiver.

Gay Wells married Carl Schneider on Oct. 24, 1953, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City. They had always made their home on a farm west of Manly. For the last three years, Gay resided at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center.

Gay was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly. She was involved with the Worth County Extension office, where she was a 4-H leader and aide. We remember Gay as a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing and crafts, and especially quilting.

Her survivors include her husband, Carl Schneider, Manly; three children, Carol (Dudley) Forbus, Inola, Okla.; Pauline (Bill) Berzins, Antioch, Tenn.; and John (Amy) Schneider, West St. Paul, Minn.; six grandchildren: Joseph and Jeffrey Forbus, Lindsey and Taylor Berzins, and Cathryn and Joel Schneider; and two brothers: Doug (Elsie) Wells, St. Paul, Minn., and Thomas (Joyce) Wells, Leavenworth, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, K. Jane Schneider in February 1996; and a brother, Mark Wells in May 2005.
