Clarence S. Rye, cashier of the Citizens' Savings Bank of Hanlontown, is a young business man who has improved his opportunities and by reason of his innate worth and capability has steadily worked his way upward in business circles. He was born in Fertile township, Worth county, Iowa, July 2, 1884, and is a son of Ole and Kjersti (Methus) Rye. He spent his boyhood days in Fertile township upon the old home farm and early became familiar with the best methods of tilling the soil and caring for the crops. To the work of the fields the summer months were devoted and in the winter seasons be attended the public schools. After mastering the elementary branches of learning he was ambitious to secure further education and entered the schools of Mason City, Iowa, while still later he continued his studies in the Colorado State College and the University of Minnesota, thus receiving liberal training as a preparation for life's practical and responsible duties. In 1908 he accepted a position with his present bank as clerk and has worked his way upward to the position of cashier, mastering every phase of the banking business and gaining intimate knowledge of everything connected therewith. In 1909 he was advanced to the position of assistant cashier and after thus serving for eight years was promoted on the 25th of October, 1917, to the position of cashier, in which capacity he is now serving.
Mr. Rye holds membership in the Norwegian Lutheran church. His political allegiance is given to the republican party and for the past four years he has served as mayor of Hanlontown, giving to the city a businesslike and progressive administration characterized by needed reform and improvement. He is a most alert and energetic business man and public-spirited citizen - one whose value to the community is widely acknowledged.
