Walter T. Hartley

Walter T. Hartley was born in Niagara Co., N. Y., on the 7th of November, 1851, and is the son of Thomas E. and Hulda H. Hartley. When he was about three years of age his parents moved to Morrow Co., Ohio, where he remained until 1864, when a further removal was made to Cedar Co., Iowa, where he resided two years, then going to Mahaska county. Mr. Hartley was reared on a farm and received his education in the common and graded schools. He was a student during the years 1874 and 1875 in the law department of the State University, at Iowa City, from which he is a graduate. He commenced the practice of law in New Sharon, Mahaska county, in 1876, and continued to discharge the duties of his profession until the spring of 1878, when he came to Northwood, arriving on the 28th of March. On the 10th of September, 1878, he was united in marriage with Olive B. Wood, and they have one child -Riley S. Mr. Hartley, although a young man, is rapidly taking a foremost place in the legal ranks. Source: History of Mitchell and Worth Counties, Iowa, 1884, p.592
