G. E. Whitcomb was born in Lincoln township, Worth county. Iowa. September 11. 1869. In 1882 the family removed to Grove township and settled on a farm north of Northwood. In 189l they came to Northwood and the real estate, loan and abstract Arm of (G. H. Whitcomb & Son was formed, of which he is the junior member.

He attended the Northwood high school until l888, when he entered Cedar Valley Seminary at Osage from which institution he graduated in the class of 1891. In 1893 he took a coarse in Capital City Commercial College of Des Moines.

On the 25th day of November. l896, he was joined in marriage to Miss Minnie E. Beckett, daughter of B. H. Beckett, the pioneer merchant of Northwood. They have one son. Benjamin B.
