Attorney Albert L. Thompson was born on a Worth county farm January 13, 1871. When he was two years of age his father removed to Northwood and entered the general merchandise business. Here the subject of our sketch pursued his studies in the public schools until he had completed the junior year of the high school. In September 1888 he entered Albert Lea academy, where he remained two years. In 1890 he went to Des Moines and pursued a business course in the Iowa Business College, graduated therefrom in 1891. For a time he worked in the office of Attorney J. R. Smith, caring for his abstract business. For the following 18 months he was deputy treasurer of Worth county under Gilbert N. Haugen. At the close of his term he was employed as deputy postmaster of Northwood. From 1894 to 1900 he was assistant cashier of the Northwood Banking Co. (now First National Bank). He resigned his position to accept a place in the census bureau at Washington.

In February 1902 he was transferred to the pension department and soon afterwards he was selected by the secretary of the interior as one of the principal accountants to investigate the accounts of Indian traders. While in Washington he studied law at Columbia university, where he graduated in 1903.

In the summer of 1904 he returned to Northwood. and Sept. 1, of the same year he opened a law office. In November he was joined by E. M. Sabin. a classmate and friend in Washington. Since that date the firm has been Thompson & Sabin.

Since November l903, Mr. Thompson has been a member of the mercantile firm of J. B. Thompson & Sons. He is an expert accountant and is often employed in positions where proficient auditing is required.

In polities Mr. Thompson is a republican, popular with the people of his native town and county, and we have often heard it said that he is in line for something good in a political way.

On September 15. 1897, he was married to Miss Caroline Johnson at Northwood. Three children have blessed this home: Julian Russell, Mildred and Marie, the girls being twins.
