Jacob Overholt (Mrs. John Randall's father), was born near Jordan, Canada West, Dec. 11, 1810. He was married to Rachel Claus, in 1832. Her parents and grand-parents were among the earliest settlers of that part of the dominion. Mr. Overholt bought a farm near Eastwood, where they resided until they removed to Allamakee Co., Iowa, in 1857. They were among the first settlers there, the Indians having left there only a short time before. The nearest land office was then located at Dubuque.
