George Boynton, a butcher of Northwood and one of its enterprising business men, was born in Bangor, Maine, June 8, 1836. He is the youngest of twelve children. His parents were William and Mary (Huchins) Boynton. He went to Boston in 1851, and was employed in the markets of the city. He was married there to Sarah, a daughter of James M. Shaw, of Corinth, Penobscot Co., Maine, by whom there are two children—Annie D. and Charles R. In 1864 he went to Chicago, Ill., embarking in the butchering business, in which he was very successful, but in the great fire of 1871 he lost everything he possessed. In 1872 he went to Fairbury, Ill. In 1878 he located in Northwood, and has since been engaged in butchering. He is a Free and Accepted Mason of Oriental lodge, No. 33 Chicago.
