Herman C. Miller, a partner in the Ueker & Miller Hardware Company of Grafton and thus active in the control of one of the important commercial interests of the town, is numbered among the native sons of Worth county, his birth having occurred in Union township on the 2d of August, 1877, his parents being Fred and Rosa (Tirttien) Miller. His boyhood days were passed on the old homestead farm in Union township and in Mitchell county and his education was acquired in the public schools. During his boyhood days his parents removed with their family to Rock township, Mitchell county, and he assisted in the development of his father's land for a number of years, early becoming familiar with the best methods of tilling the soil and caring for the crops. He was quite young when he took his place in the fields to aid in the plowing and planting, and after his father's death he returned to Union township, Worth county, where he was employed in an implement business for three years. He afterward secured a position with the James A, Smith Lumber Company, with which he remained for eleven years, at the end of which time, in connection with John F. Ueker, he purchased his present business, thus entering commercial circles of Grafton on his own account. He has since conducted business as junior partner in the firm of Ueker & Miller and they own and control a well appointed hardware store, carrying a large stock of shelf and heavy hardware, while their reasonable prices, their straightforward dealing and their enterprise have secured for them a liberal patronage.
In 1903 Mr. Miller was united in marriage to Miss Clara Trettin, a daughter of Herman and Elizabeth (Fay) Trettin. Mr. and Mrs. Miller have become parents of two sons, Earl and Marvin. The parents are members of the German Lutheran church and Mr. Miller votes with the republican party, which he has supported since age conferred upon him the right of franchise. He is well known in Mitchell and Worth counties, where his entire life has been passed and where he has so directed his efforts as to win a substantial measure of success. There have been no spectacular phases in his career but persistent energy and effort have won the reward which always follows and his enterprise is bringing to him well merited prosperity.
