Nettie Batman 1872 - 1920

Mrs. H.M. Batman nee Nettie Jones was born in Adams County, Wis., Dec. 17, 1872. Died Dec. 5, 1920, aged 47 years, 11 months, 19 days. When 3 years of age she moved with her parents to a farm in Iowa, one half mile north of Holly Springs where she resided until her marriage to Joseph Hall, Jan. 2nd, 1894, they moving to a farm 5 miles northeast of Holly Springs, residing there until Mr. Hall's death from the accidental discharge of a shotgun. One son Murray resulted from this union. Mrs. Hall was married to H.M. Batman in Sioux City Dec. 1, 1920.

Relatives who survive are her husband, son Murray J. Hall of Kingsley, Ia., father T. E. Jones and brother Jay Jones of Hornick; two sisters Mrs. Grant Colburn of Pueblo, Colo. and Mrs. Leslie Melody of Rockwell City, Iowa.

Mrs. Batman's death was the result of being run over by an automobile in Sioux City Dec. 2 while enroute to a hospital to see a relative. While standing on a street waiting for two north bound cars to pass her, she was struck by another car south bound and hurled quite a distance receiving a fracture of the collar bone, ribs and leg, and other bruises. The driver of the car leaving her lie while he drove swiftly away. She was immediately removed to a hospital and given all care possible, but without avail.

Funeral services were held in the Hornick Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 7 conducted by Rev. Snyder of Holly Springs, assisted by Rev. Lumley of Hornick, and burial in the Holly Springs cemetery.
