LAWTON, Iowa — Joyce L. Stilwell, 55, of Lawton died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a lenghty illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, Iowa, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating.

Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery at Lawton. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mrs. Stilwell was born May 13, 1942, in Sioux City; the daughter of Hans and Johanna (Trapp) Petersen. She was raised in Sioux City and attended St. Boniface Grade School, graduating from Heelan High School in 1959.

She married Jerry Stilwell on Oct. 1, 1960 in Sioux City. She taught preschool at the Lawton Presbyterian Church for 23 years.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she played the organ and sang in the choir, and the Dancing Grannies and Grandpas of Lawton.

Survivors include her husband; three sons and their wives, Joel and Sue of Lawton, Mike and Penny of Sioux City, and Matt and Chris of Iowa City, Iowa; five brothers and their wives, Robert and Corky, James and Carol, Donald and Norma, and Gary and Gloria, all of Sioux City, and Edward and Jean of Wickenberg, Ariz.; three sisters, Lorraine C. Mahaffy, Dorothy and her husband Dan Walters and Lois and her husband John Ward, all of Sioux City; and five grandchildren, Amanda, Chase, David, Collin, and Tavian.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Stading; and a brother, Ronald.

Pallbearers will be Willie Mahaffy, Ben and Bill Stading, John Ward Jr., Dan Walters, Kyle Stilwell, Jeff Petersen, and Randy Collins.

Memorials in her name maybe directed to the Siouxland Regional Cancer Center.
