15 December 2000OTO, Iowa - Eileen Catherine Callaghan, 81, of Oto died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at her residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mrs. Callaghan was born June 2, 1919, in Oto, the daughter of Jarvis and Letha (Moss) Miller. She was raised in the Oto and Smithland, Iowa area. She graduated from Oto High School.
She married Orval Wayne Callaghan on Feb. 12, 1938, in Mapleton. The couple farmed in the Oto area. They had wintered in Texas for nearly 30 years. Her husband died Feb. 3, 1992.
She was a member of Mapleton Camping Club. She enjoyed camping, cooking, fishing and reading.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Carl McGrain of Mapleton, Jane and Dick Thomas of Salix, Iowa, and Susan and Chuck Mercer of Aurelia, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Clark of Fort Collins, Colo., and Vivian Dawdy of Holly Springs.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Porter.
