14 March 2010.LAWTON, Iowa -- Gerald Dean "Jerry" Nichols of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Lawton, died March 21, 2005, in Los Angeles.
He was laid to rest in his beloved Los Angeles. A celebration of his life will be 2 to 4 p.m., March 21 at Maxine's in Lawton, Iowa. The memorial will be as Jerry would have planned it. No time for tears, just fun remembering the good times. Bring pictures and lots of stories.
Jerry was born Jan. 16, 1948, in Sioux City, to John and Marjorie "Sarge" (Robinson) Nichols. He attended Lawton-Bronson Community School, graduating in 1966. Being one not to be tied down, he traveled the United States and lived where he slept. He worked in several different industries during his lifetime. He managed a men's health club and was a floral designer in Kansas City. He also spent time as a garbage man in Lawton. When in town, he was an avid volunteer for the Lawton Fire Department. Being an accomplished cook, many of us have fond memories of spaghetti and lasagna.
Always quick with a joke or story, he was even faster at making friends and will be always remembered. Jerry did not march to a different drum, he danced to his own drum.
Survivors include three brothers, James "Fred" of San Antonio, Texas, Jack of Omaha, and Phillip of Omaha; several nieces and nephews; and a large group of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Rest in peace, our brother. You will always be our topic of conversation and the cause of our big smile.
