James Albert Copenhaver, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. W. F. Copenhaver, was born at the Copenhaver old home south of Bronson, Ia, Feburary 9, 1888. He was operated on for appendicitis on February 26 and just eight days later, March 6, at 3p.m. passed to his reward.

He moved from the old home to Lawton in 1910 and opened a blacksmith and repair shop. By good, honest work, courteous treatment, and strict business principles succeeded in building up a good business.

On March 6, 1912, he was united in a very happy union to Miss Myrtle Hooghkirk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Hooghkirk. To this union two bright little girls were born.

His sudden death came as a great shock to the community where he was so well and favorably known. All hearts were stirred by his passing. He was the friend of all, both young and old. A good scout has fallen in the midst of life, but not in vain. Prior to his going, and while in full possession of all his faculties, he made of his own free volition the noble choice, expressing freely his faith and confidence in God. He left a large message for his friends. He was the kindly spirit that bore no ill will. He was always glad for an opportunity to do a kindness. He was much interested in the civic and moral welfare of the community, and was up to the time of his death a member of the village council.

He leaves to mourn his death and cherish his memory, a wife, two daughters, Lois Lucile, aged five years, and Doris Jean, aged two years; eight brothers and five sisters and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Presbyterian church, Lawton, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.W. Turner. Burial Tuesday in Banner cemetery. The attendance at the services and large floral offerings in their beauty, attested the popularity of the deceased.
