Myrtle May Hooghkirk Copenhaver 1885 - 1921

Myrtle May Hooghkirk was born at Tama, Iowa on July 21, 1885 and died in Sioux City, Iowa on November 29, 1921 aged 36 years, 4 months, 8 days. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Presbyterian church at Lawton. Rev. W. D. Jones of Cleghorn conducting the services. Interment was in Banner Cemetery.

Death resulted from severe attack of typhoid fever, from which complications developed, making inroads up in her system which could not be combated. On November she was taken seriously ill and on the following Monday was taken to a Sioux City hospital to recieve special treatment. On Tuesday afternoon she fell into a deep sleep from which she never regained consciousness, passing away at 3:30 o'clock.

Deceased was united in marriage with James Albert Copenhaver, of Lawton on March 6, 1912 and to this union were born two children, Lois Lucille, aged 6 and Doris Jean, aged 3. The husband and father died on March 6, 1921. Besides her two children deceased is survived by her parents, Mr & Mrs. C. H. Hooghkirk and her brother, Lee E. Sharp.

Mrs. Copenhaver recieved a common school education, after which she attended Western college at Toledo, Iowa. She taught school for several years giving up teaching when she recieved the appointment as postmistress at Lawton, which position she held for four years.
