Linda Jan (Payne) Petersen the daughter of Jay T Payne and Irene Janet (Willer) Payne was born January 15th, 1944, in Moville, Iowa. Linda was raised in Moville.
As a young girl Linda liked to sew, cook, garden, read and was a member of Order of The Rainbow. These turned into lifetime passions that she continued until her illness no longer allowed. Linda attended and graduated from Moville Community School. After high school Linda attended Morningside College.
On September 13th, 1963, Linda married the love of her life Derl Petersen at the Methodist Church in Moville. Soon after Linda and Derl moved to Norfolk, Virginia and then to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for Derl’s service in the United States Navy.
Linda and Derl liked to explore their new cities. They enjoyed shopping in the open-air markets, meeting new neighbors, and introducing them to Midwest culture and food.
Linda and Derl moved back to Moville in 1966 and started their family. To this union their wonderful children Sherri, Amy, and Timothy were born. Linda was a devoted mother and dedicated her life to raising them. Once her kids were older Linda worked as a Legal Secretary for Metcalf, Thompson, and Phipps until her retirement.
Linda loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was famous for her Mickey Mouse waffles, trips to the Henry Doorly Zoo and her home haircuts (which were usually not pre-approved by their parents). She would literally do anything for them, and they ALWAYS wanted to go to grandma’s house. Later in life Linda enjoyed collecting treadle sewing machines, feeding the birds, squirrels, and rabbits.
Linda is survived by her husband of more than 62 years Derl Petersen, daughter Sherri & Mark Harris, son Tim & Jennifer Petersen. Grandchildren Eric Harris & Areal Jones, Erin & Michael Leners, Andrew & Katie Petersen, Matthew Petersen & Morgan Lantis, and Abby Petersen. One Great-Grandchild Cameron Leners.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Daniel Payne, and her daughter Amy.
