Joel Lawrence Guillaume passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at 50 years old, on October 2nd, 2024 in Houston, Texas.
Joel is preceded in death by his father Lawrence(Larry). He is survived by his children Abby and Zane and their mother Holly; mother Patricia (Patty); brother Matthew (Matt) and sister in law Kimberlee (Kim); girlfriend Beverly and his many other friends and family.
Joel grew up in Sioux City, lowa where he attended North High School. After graduating high school, he attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He moved to Lafayette, LA with his first job and after getting laid off moved to Houston. In the search for a new engineering job, he worked at Lowe's. To Joel, working at Lowe's was an important part of his journey, and never discouraged his potential to be a great engineer. He then went on to work 23 years for Technip Energies. Before his career was cut short he had become Global Head of Technology- Ethylene.
Joel was an independent, hardworking, ambitious, and quick witted man who enjoyed creating and making things himself. Some of his hobbies include brewing his own beer, forging knives, cooking on the Traeger, woodworking, and fixing up his truck. He was a dedicated Texans fan, who loved to tailgate and would never leave a game until the game clock read 0:00. He loved to learn new things through reading and watching videos and television. Some of his most recent obsessions were SpaceX and upgrading on 'tiny truck.
Though Joel's journey of life ends here, his memory will forever live on through those that knew him.
In true Joel fashion and per his request, no formal service will be held. As stated by him, "Parties are alright!" So to honor his life, his family will be hosting a party Nov. 9th from Noon to 5:00 p.m. at 4645 Military Rd. Sioux City.
