Carolyn C. Shull

June 24, 1931 - September 28, 2024

Carolyn C. Shull, 93, of Greeley, CO passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Meadowview Assisted Living. She was born June 24, 1931, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Carlton Maloney and Katherine Pauline (Engelhardt) Corbett, where she spent her childhood.

Carolyn graduated from Bradford Junior College in Bradford, MA and from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. During her college years, she worked as a weekly summer columnist for the Sioux City Journal covering the Lakes Region. After graduation, Carolyn worked in advertising, creating live commercials for radio stations KMNS (Sioux City) and KBON (Omaha), and for television station KTIV (Sioux City). As was common in that era, she quit working when she married.

On August 18, 1956, Carolyn married D. Carlton Shull in Sioux City, Iowa, where they made their home and raised their children. After her husband's retirement, they enjoyed summers on Crandall's Beach, Spirit Lake, Iowa and winters in Port Aransas, Mustang Island, Texas. In 2010 they moved to Greeley to be closer to family.

Throughout her years in Sioux City, Carolyn was involved in many organizations and causes: the All-American City Award Committee, Art Center, the United Way of Siouxland, Concert Course, and the Girl Scouts. Carolyn was a former member of P.E.O. and Junior League, serving as president for Junior League in 1960. She had also been a member of the Sioux City Portfolio Book Study Club, the Okoboji Yacht Club, and was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Sioux City.

Carolyn shared her love of reading, gardening, photography, and international travel with her family who now pursue these interests as well. She will be remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and creative endeavors. She will be missed.

Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth S. Donalds of Falmouth, MA and Katherine J. Shull of Greeley, CO; four grandchildren, Emma O'Conner (Brendan) of Lakewood, CO, Morgan Yockey of Anchorage, AK, Charles Donalds of Boulder, CO, and Zachary Yockey of Greeley, CO; nephews, John Conner, William Conner, James Phillips, Carey Michael Phillips, and Jeffrey Phillips; niece, Susan Conner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Andrew C. Shull.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Library Association's Unite Against Book Bans Fund, to the Arbor Day Foundation, or an organization of your choice.
