Joan was born June 30, 1937, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Edward Ford and Dolores (Glassmaker) Ford. She grew up on a farm in Cherokee, Iowa, and was the third of four siblings. She went to school at Immaculate Conception grade school and high school there too. After graduation, she attended Briar Cliff College and became a teacher. She moved to California to teach. While there she went to a party in the Hollywood Hills and met her husband, Jean A. Dacres. They were married six months later in Cherokee, Iowa on July 29th, 1961. Together, they raised two daughters and two sons. Joan taught two years in Sutherland, Iowa, five years in California, and thirty-two years in Sioux City at Immaculate Conception Mater Dei. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she played the organ and piano for everything they had musically. After retirement, she decided to travel. Some of her favorite places were England, Ireland, Alaska, Nova Scotia, and Hawaii. During those travels, she visited every presidential library that was open at the time. She enjoyed watching sports, her favorite teams being the Iowa Hawkeyes, Notre Dame, Chicago Bulls, and Bishop Heelan. She loved being in the garden in the springtime, planting flowers and taking care of the lawn and she loved her swimming pool and family pool parties. Of course, her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jean Dacres; four children, Matt Dacres of Sioux City, Iowa, Jena Thiele (Ed) of Sioux City, Iowa, Deana Smyth (Bill) of Bellevue, Nebraska, Paul Dacres (Kristen) of Sioux City, Iowa; brother Jerald Ford of Fort Dodge, Iowa; sister Jean Ford Ryan (James) of Burlington, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren; Megan Huber (Jared), Rachel Thiele (Adam Leff), Seth Thiele, Ryan Dacres (Kayla) Jake Thiele, Mikaela Smyth, Dublin Smyth, Nia Smyth, Brooke Dacres and Braedon Darces. Three great-grandchildren Jackson Thiele, Kolsen Huber and Caleb Huber and three step great-grandchild Kaden, Bethany, and Lucas Leff.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Ed and Dolores Ford; sister Joyce (Ford) Gerlock and brother-in-law Robert Gerlock.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.

The family would like to thank the staff at Continental Springs for providing such loving care to Joan.
