Roberta Mae Hudson McKay (nee Taylor), affectionately known as Berta, passed away on April 15, 2024, in Cody, Wyoming, at the age of 82. Born in Sioux City, Iowa, Roberta's journey through life was marked by her dedication to both her career and her family, leaving a legacy of love and commitment.
Roberta's academic pursuits began at East High School in Sioux City, Iowa graduating in 1960. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Morningside University and later to Long Beach State in California. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Western State College of Law. Before her daughter was born, she worked in public relations at Pacific Bell Telephone.
Aside from her professional accomplishments, Roberta was deeply invested in her personal hobbies and family. Known as Grandma Birdie, she cherished her role within the family, bringing joy and love to her grandchildren's lives. An avid cook and flower arranger, Roberta also excelled as a fisherwoman, enjoying annual fishing trips to Northern Minnesota, a testament to her love for nature and adventure. Roberta loved travel and made many trips to France, one of her favorite places.
Roberta is survived by her daughter, Michele Hudson Prevost; sisters, Susan M. Smith and Kathryn Rudd; stepsons, Ian McKay, Blair McKay; stepdaughters, Dianne McKay, Debbie Pautsch, Erin Cortell, Gail McKay Marin and several step grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Barry McKay; former husband, William Hudson; parents, Cliff and Marian Hawley Taylor; sisters, Shirley Smith, Joan Taylor, Nancy Smith, and Marjorie Taylor.
Memorial Service is planned for Sunday October 20,10:30 am at Pacific View Memorial Park 3500 Pacific View Drive Corona Del Mar, California. Roberta's life was a beautiful mosaic of dedication, love, and perseverance, touching the lives of many and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered.
