Otto Clayton "Bud" Albrecht, 100, died Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at a local hospital.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Otto Clayton "Bud" Albrecht was born May 22, 1924, in Sioux City to Otto D. and Sarah (Davis) Albrecht. He attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School in 1942. After graduation, Bud moved to Buffalo, NY and was employed with Curtis Wright Aircraft Company, working on P-40s and C-46s. He worked there until November of 1942.

In February of 1943, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Bud did 13 weeks of Basic Infantry Training before transferring to the Air Corps to begin Bombardier Training. He graduated in September of 1944 and was assigned to the 494th Bomb Group. Bud served on a B-24 and was sent to the Pacific Theatre of Operations, bombing targets from the Palau Islands, Okinawa, Shanghai, and the Japanese Main Islands.

After the fighting stopped in September of 1945, Bud spent six months in the occupation of Japan. He was discharged in May of 1946.

Upon returning home, he went to work for his father to run Albrecht Cycle Shop. They sold Harley Davidson motorcycles, Cushman scooters, and Schwinn bicycles. In 2016, he sold the Bike Shop and retired at the age of 92.

In July of 1948, Bud married Marian Schmidt of Dell Rapids, SD. They had two children, Douglas and Cindy. Marian died in November of 2000. After 2003, he enjoyed a 12-year friendship with Dee Stone. Dee died in 2015.

Bud was a member of the Soo Cycle Club for over 75 years, the American Motorcycle Association, and the American Legion Post 697.

Bud is survived by his daughter, Cindy and Kevin Brewer; grandchildren: Adam Brewer, Ashley and Travis McCarter, Courtney and Brandon Andersen, Nicole and Matt Watt, Lindsay and Eric Fritz; eight great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Valerie Albrecht.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Doug Albrecht; and sisters: Angeline Hutchins and Darlean Harrison.
